Check out that beautifully cut Spiro Doily Die!  The pretty blue circled stamp from the Medallion Mix-Up stamp set coordinates beautifully!

Speaking of the Medallion Mix-Up set, my next card showcases it as a background pattern  using some beautiful Catherine Pooler ink colors.

The Simply The Best stamp set is a great set to work with.  It includes a bunch of words that will come together so that  you can build a number of different phrases to personalize your cards.  There are also other stamps in this set, including this fun banner stamp!

The Ton's June Challenge - Color Inspiration

Hi everyone.  Today we're welcoming the month of June with a color challenge over at
 The Ton's Challenge Blog: The Season.
You have the whole month of June to enter this challenge for a chance to WIN a $50 gift certificate from  
The Ton online store.  You can click on the link to head on over and check it out any time.  But first I'd like to show you a little card I made using these beautiful colors.

I used these ink colors from The Ton:
Deep Sapphire, Hot Tourmaline, Crystal Pewter, Soft Garnet and Cosmopolitan Pink.

For the palm leaves on the background I did some second generation stamping with Hot Tourmaline.  I inked up the first layer stamp from the Autumn Foliage stamp set and stamped off on a piece of scratch paper before I stamped it on my card front.  This is what created the lightest color of my leaves.  Then I stamped the second layer of the stamp directly on top using Hot Tourmaline.  This creates a great contrast using the same color.  I finished off the last layer using Deep Sapphire.  Stamped in these colors I think they leaves look more like flower petals.  I finished the background using Crystal Pewter and a tiny little dot stamp from the Honey Bears stamp set.

Stamps:  Darling Flamingos, Autumn Foliage, Marvelous Perfumes, Honey Bears (The Ton).
Inks:  Deep Sapphire, Hot Tourmaline, Crystal Pewter, Soft Garnet, Cosmopolitan Pink, Noir (The Ton), clear emboss (Versamark).
Paper:  white cardstock 110 lb (Neenah).
Accessories:  Modern Labels Coordinating Dies, Darling Flamingos Coordinating Dies, Silver Glitter Adhesive Paper (The Ton), Wink of Stella glitter pen, clear embossing powder (Ranger).


For the Darling Flamingos I did the same technique with second generation stamping  using Soft Garnet.  Then I topped it off with Cosmopolitan Pink for the third layer.  Using the Darling Flamingos Coordinating dies is so much easier than fussy cutting.

I stamped a sentiment  from the Marvelous Perfumes stamp set in Noir ink and embossed with clear embossing powder.
Using the stitched oval die from the Modern Labels Coordinating die set, I cut directly into the card front then popped it up on the front of the card base with some fun foam.  The beautiful sparkle on the bottom of the card is a strip cut from
 The Ton's Silver Glitter Adhesive Paper.  I love that stuff, it's so easy to adhere!

Finding rainbows and new friends.

 Happy Friday!  I'm sorry I've been  MIA on my blog the last couple of weeks but I've been locked in my craft room, working hard on two very important upcoming events.  I'll be making up for lost time and will be posting like crazy the first week in June so be sure to stop by and join in the fun!

For now though, I thought I'd end this week by sharing a little card I made for a swap going on over at StampNation.   We were challenged to make a themed card to send to a fellow member.  Can you guess what the theme is?

I was very inspired by this man silhouette from Ranger's Essential Silhouettes stamp and stencil set.  It reminds me of Michael Jackson's old Billy Jean video.  You know, the one where he is dancing and with each step of his foot a section of the sidewalk lights up?  I know that sounds a little silly, but for some reason it totally inspired me to stencil a multi-colored sidewalk.   Catherine Pooler Designs Inks blended so nicely over the stencil.   I also stenciled a sunburst in the upper left hand corner.  On a separate piece of cardstock I stamped the silhouette in Midnight black ink and  added clear embossing over the top to make him shine. 

Stamps:  Essential Silhouettes (Ranger), Woodland Beauty (Penny Black), Dream in Color (Reverse Confetti).

Ink:  Rockin' Red, Orange Twist, Tiara, Lime Rickey, Fiesta Blue, Pixie Dust, Midnight (Catherine Pooler Designs).

Accessories:  Essential Silhouettes coordinating stencil (Ranger), Sunburst Stencil (Studio 45), Blueprints #15 dies (My Favorite Things), clear embossing powder (WOW!).

Before I cut it out I added a cute little bluebird from the Woodland Beauty stamp set, then cut it out as one piece.  This sentiment from Reverse Confetti's Dream in Color stamp set fit perfectly with the whole theme of this card.  Have you guessed the theme yet?

Growing in Unity - We have winners!

My card today is a simple design with the focus on this beautiful lady from the the Whatever Comes Next stamp set.  I stamped and colored her with Kuretake real brush markers then masked her over to protect her image while I added a stenciled pattern to the background.  I didn't plan it, but these background colors seem to blend softly into her skin tones.  And because square is not my style, (hehe), I diecut the image into a circle shape.  I have so many coffee related sentiments from other stamp companies that I love to mix and match with my Unity Stamps, so that's what I did here.

The Ton's May Challenge - Tic Tac Toe

Hi everyone!  Happy May Day!  It's time for another monthly challenge over at The Ton.   Join us for some cardmaking fun and the chance to win a  $50 gift certificate to The Ton by entering your card following this month's theme...  
Tic, Tac, Toe!  All you have to do is pick three in a row and start creating!

My choice for three in a row are:

Shaker Card, Embossing and Watercolor

I started out by embossing the beautiful Sunflower Garden Cling Background stamp onto 140 lb watercolor paper with white embossing powder.   I turned on some music and spent the next hour watercoloring these gorgeous pink flowers with my Kuretake watercolor markers and a water brush.  What a wonderful, relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon.  I only used two shades of each color to keep it simple and fun:

Petals:  Light Carmine and Carmine Red

Leaves:  Mid Green and Olive Green

Flower Centers:  Yellow and Mustard

 

 Stamps: Sunflower Garden Cling Background, Pragmatic Wreaths, Wildflower Banner (The Ton).

Ink:  Noir (The Ton), clear emboss (Versamark).

Paper:  140 lb white (Neenah), 140 lb watercolor (Canson).

Accessories:  Spring Fawn Mix (The Ton), Kuretake Clean Color Real Brush Watercolor markers (ZIG), white embossing powder (Ranger), dimensional tape (3M), transparency film.

 For my shaker element, I used the center of this large flower.  I just followed along the edge of the white embossing with an exacto knife and it cut fairly easy.   I stamped part of the sentiment on the inside then added the other part to a banner strip on top.  I filled this little shaker with some of The Ton's pretty Spring Fawn Couture Mix and Bright Diamond Seed Beads.

 To tie in the black from the sentiment I added a big black and white bow using bakers twine.

Now, you may notice something different about Catherine.  She has something that none of my other AngieGirls have........eyes, nose, mouth and even eyebrows.  This is a nice little, inexpensive stamp set called AngieGirl Faces.   It comes with two tiny  faces that you can add to your girls.  These faces don't fit all of the AngieGirls though since they are all different sizes.  But they work great on Catherine.

Harmony trudges through her day with a spring in her step and rocking that raincoat and boots ensemble.  She doesn't let a little rain ruin her day and she's sure not going to wait around for the storm to pass.  It's time to dance!

Growing in Unity - Day 4

Hello and welcome back!  Today is day four of my Growing in Unity week with Unity Stamp Company.  Today I'm going to throw in a couple of masculine cards using one of my favorite stamp sets:


For The Guys



When I make my masculine cards the one thing I try to do is keep the color bright and cheerful.  I mean, just because he's a guy doesn't mean he doesn't like fun colors right?  Especially on a birthday card!  So for this card I played off of the 1950's feel of this classic old car.  Black and white tiles scream 50's to me so I stamped a black striped background onto white paper, then cut it into 1/2 inch strips.  Then I glued them to the bottom of the card, staggering them to make this awesome checkerboard pattern.  I stenciled a bright yellow sunburst to draw attention to the real focal point......our classic car!

Stamps:  For The Guys (Unity Stamp Company), Haute Stripes Background (The Ton).  Ink:  Tiara, Aquatini (Catherine Pooler Designs), Bright Emerald, Noir (The Ton), clear emboss (Versamark).  Paper:  Premium White Cardstock (Catherine Pooler Designs), Black (Simon Says Stamp).  Accessories:  Sunburst stencil (Stampers Anonymous), fine white embossing powder (WOW!).


I also made a coordinating tag to go along with this card.  One tip I can give for stamping this car is to try the rock and roll method.  I used two different shades of teal to stamp this car.  First I stamped the whole image with the lighter shade: Bright Emerald ink.  Then I inked up the stamp with a darker shade just around the edges of the car being sure to leave the center lighter.  I'm not sure these photos show it clearly but the hood, interior and underneath the car, as well as the back end are a slight shade darker, stamping with Aquatini.

For my second card, it's time to take to the friendly skies.  This little airplane is a favorite masculine stamp of mine because my husband's #1 hobby is flying.  I love to stencil on clouds and make different scenes to showcase this little plane. 

Stamps:  For The Guys (Unity Stamp Company), Woodland Beauty (Penny Black).  Ink:  Tumbled Glass (Ranger Distress), Forever Green, Field Greens (Hero Arts Shadow Ink), Onyx Black (Versafine), clear emboss (Versamark).  Paper:  Premium White Cardstock (Catherine Pooler Designs), black (Simon Says Stamp).  Accessories:  Border Builders, Silly Stitched, Stitched Mats Rectangles (Lil' Inker Designs), Kuretake Clean Color Real Brush Markers (Zig), fun foam, dimensional tape (3M).


To give this plane the illusion of flying, I always like to bump it up in some way with dimensional tape.  Here I floated it off the edge of the raised center piece and added dimensional tape just under the tail section.

Growing in Unity - Day 3

Hi everyone and welcome to day three of Growing in Unity with Unity Stamp Company.   Today I'm straying away from the Angie Girls to show off these adorable little Penguin Pals.   I don't know about you but when I think of penguins I think of cold, brrrrrrr!   I was kind of sad that  I didn't get a chance to use these stamps for Christmas cards or for winter cards this year so I thought it would be fun to try to make a couple of any occasion cards that I can give all year long.

Now, I know it's the end of April.  The flowers and trees are blooming and we have already started to mow that fresh green lawn every week.  But I'm thinking a little bit of snow in April never hurt anybody.  Let's give these little guys a few soft, shivering snowdrifts by blending with some distress ink and using a mask.

Stamps: Penguin Pals (Unity Stamp Company).

Ink: Midnight (Catherine Pooler Designs), tumbled glass distress ink (Ranger), Kuretake Clean Color Real Brush markers.

Paper:  Premium White Cardstock (Catherine Pooler Designs).

Accessories:  Silly Stitched dies (Lil' Inker Designs).

Penguins are easy, I just stamped them in black and gave them a slight highlight around the edges of their white areas with a Copic marker.  This adds a little dimension and gives their little bellies a look of being round.

Now, to say "hello" in the cutest way I warmed up this  penguin a little.  Out with the blues and in with the reds and yellows.   I circled this little guy with lots of warm color.

I popped up the word bubble with dimensional tape and added some Glossy Accents to the glasses for extra credit.  See, Penguin Pals don't need snow.  They are cute in any kind of weather.

Growing in Unity - Day 2

Hi everyone!  Welcome to day two of my week of Growing in Unity with the Unity Stamp Company.  Thank you so much for following along with me.  Today I'm still having fun with my AngieGirls by Angie Blom.   I decided to make two cards using this one sweet stamp set.  I colored my first card using Kuretake real brush watercolor markers.  My second card was colored using Faber-Castell's Gelatos.   

Cierra Girl

I think girls like Cierra Girl  are pretty typical these days, gazing into her cell phone, snapping photos of anything and everything to share on social media or with her friends.  Finding someone to share these cards with won't be hard at all because most of my friends can relate, especially those with teenagers.

Look at my Cierra Girl, her pretty pink phone coordinating with her manicure!

Using strips of black and white paper I made an inlaid striped background for my Cierra girl #2.

Ink:  onyx black (Versafine), Gelatos (Faber-Castell).

Paper:  watercolor 140 lb (Canson), black (Simon Says Stamp), Premium White Cardstock (Catherine Pooler Designs).

Accessories:  gold glitter pen (Gellyroll),  clear sequins, dimensional tape (3M).

Gelatos work great as watercolors.

Cierra may have a relaxed style but she still likes her bling!

Growing in Unity: Day 1

 Hi everyone!  I'm here today to kick off my week as GIU girl for the  Unity Stamp Company.  GIU stands for Growing in Unity.  I stumbled upon Unity Stamp Company kind of by accident last year and absolutely fell in love with their rubber stamped images.  I really found myself drawn to their AngieGirls series by artist Angie Blom.   There is something about these girls, most of them faceless that inspire me and just make me want to collect them and color them all.  They are dressed stylish, have beautiful hair and little details like jewelry and manicures just begging for a tiny touch of color.

So, with my first post as GIU girl I'd like to introduce you to:

 
Evelyn Girl







My Evelyn Girl is headed to her best friend's birthday party with a beautiful bouquet of pink and purple balloons.  Dressed in her polka dotted party dress, little purple wedge shoes and stylish hat, she is ready for some birthday fun.
