Hi everyone and welcome to day three of Growing in Unity with Unity Stamp Company. Today I'm straying away from the Angie Girls to show off these adorable little Penguin Pals. I don't know about you but when I think of penguins I think of cold, brrrrrrr! I was kind of sad that I didn't get a chance to use these stamps for Christmas cards or for winter cards this year so I thought it would be fun to try to make a couple of any occasion cards that I can give all year long.
Now, I know it's the end of April. The flowers and trees are blooming and we have already started to mow that fresh green lawn every week. But I'm thinking a little bit of snow in April never hurt anybody. Let's give these little guys a few soft, shivering snowdrifts by blending with some distress ink and using a mask.
Stamps: Penguin Pals (Unity Stamp Company).
Ink: Midnight (Catherine Pooler Designs), tumbled glass distress ink (Ranger), Kuretake Clean Color Real Brush markers.
Paper: Premium White Cardstock (Catherine Pooler Designs).
Accessories: Silly Stitched dies (Lil' Inker Designs).
Penguins are easy, I just stamped them in black and gave them a slight highlight around the edges of their white areas with a Copic marker. This adds a little dimension and gives their little bellies a look of being round.
Now, to say "hello" in the cutest way I warmed up this penguin a little. Out with the blues and in with the reds and yellows. I circled this little guy with lots of warm color.
Stamps: Penquin Pals (Unity Stamp Company), Yay Stripes! (Catherine Pooler Designs), Mini Heart Print Background (The Ton).
Ink: Caviar (The Ton), Tiara (Catherine Pooler Designs), clear emboss (Versamark).
Paper: Premium White Cardstock (Catherine Pooler Designs), black (Simon Says Stamp).
Accessories: Circles dies, Dotted Circles dies, Beautiful You die (Catherine Pooler Designs), Stitched Mats Square dies, Silly Stitched dies, Speech Bubbles 2 dies (Lil' Inker Designs), Hello Word die (The Ton), Copic Markers, twine, fine white embossing powder (WOW!), Glossy Accents, dimensional tape (3M).
I popped up the word bubble with dimensional tape and added some Glossy Accents to the glasses for extra credit. See, Penguin Pals don't need snow. They are cute in any kind of weather.

ReplyDeleteNothing cuter than a penguin! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI really like these penguin cards. I like the way you made the sky. I did not realize how well yellow and white and black and red works.
ReplyDeleteChoosing the penguins was such a clever and fun idea. The snowy hills look cool and calm, but I am loving the warmth of your second card. Thanks for thinking outside the box!
ReplyDeleteBoth are super cute cards! I'm thinking the snowy one would be a great one to send in the middle of a hot July! We could all use a bit of cold then!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Gina!

ReplyDeleteYour penguin cards are adorable. Its funny because I was thinking about snow today too! I would be SO EXCITED to win some Unity stamps since I do not have any yet (on a budget). Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI find penguins are year round animals. The first card is beautifully simple and clean, the snow background is beautiful and the shading for the penguins is outstanding. The second card is pretty darn awesome in itself. I love the color choices they match so well with that penguin and the glasses. Thank you for sharing and for all the info.
